The Directorate of Mental Health was established in year 1998 and over the years it has strengthened its organizational structure, linkages and capacity to cater the needs of the country. It has played a key role in expanding Mental Health services throughout the country. Mental ill-health and Psychiatric disorders are one of the most significant public health challenges in the world. The burden of mental disorders continues to grow with significant impacts on health, social, human rights and economy.

As the Director of the Mental Health, I take this opportunity to extend my gratitude to all those who contributed to the achievement in the field of Mental health with commitment, dedication and hard work. I hope this website which was a long felt need will contribute to increase in mental health literacy and also to improve planning, monitoring and evaluation of mental health services in Sri Lanka.
